The Ackland Art Museum

Found by William Hayes Ackland, this art museum has
a permanent collection of over 14,000 pieces of art.
The art consists of paintings, sculptures, Indian miniatures,
Japanese paintings, folk art, drawings, photographs,
prints and more. Admission to the museum is free.

They have a large collection of artwork from around
the world. Their collection comes from African, America,
Europe, Latin, Russia and more. Collections also include
Brummer, Contemporary, Pre-Columbian and others. Membership
fee for students is $10 and $35 for adults. Family memberships
can be purchased for $60.

Founded in 1944, this is the second oldest art museum
in North Carolina. There is over 1,200 pieces of artwork
located in the museum. The art pieces include paintings,
sculptures, paper work and more. Art classes are offered
for both children and adults. Classes range from beginners
to advanced.

This large 70-mile stretch of coast features many lighthouses.
Each nearby island has its own lighthouse. The Cape
Hatteras Lighthouse is the tallest in the nation. The
light can be seen 20-miles from the shore out to sea.
Fishing and surfing is featured on this coast.
Durham Central Park

The land where the park is located was once a run down
commercial area. In 1996, funding for the park became
available and the large six acres were purchased. The
area now incorporates both a residential and commercial
community. Located in the park area are many historical
buildings.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park

This park is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. Open 24-hours a day. Located in the park is
a bronzed life-sized statue of Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr. The purpose is to allow young people the chance
to touch and feel the sculpture. Surrounding the statue
is over 5000 trees.

The Charleston Museum

The Charleston Museum was the first museum in America
and was founded in 1773. Its focus is the preservation
of and interpretation of South Carolina's natural history
through its exhibits of civil war memorabilia, photographs
and ceramics, to name a few.

The Greenville County Museum of Art displays art from
all over America. They have a variety of permanent and
traveling exhibits. The museum also offers a museum
shop and the Museum School of Art, which offers both
youth and adult art classes.
Drayton Hall

The only house to withstand both the revolutionary and
civil wars relatively intact, the Drayton Hall has a
history that steams over two and a half centuries. Now
documented and preserved through its museum foundation,
guests can explore this old plantation house, and the
grounds, which it stands, with highly trained tour guides.

landscape, its people that lived and worked here...its

The Greenville Zoo has over 100 species on exhibit and
is one of the top family attractions in the upstate of
South Carolina. The zoo's education department annually
serves over 20,000 students.
Boone Hall Plantation

Originally a cotton plantation of over 17,000 acres, Boone
Hall Plantation has one of the most majestic avenues of
moss-draped live oaks in the South, planted in 1743. Original
plantation buildings include nine 18th century slave cabins,
built of brick made on the plantation, and the Gin House,
used for processing cotton.

Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is a 17th century estate.
It features the America's oldest gardens, which boasts
one of the largest collections of azaleas and camellias
in the country. Highlights include the Pre-Revolutionary
War Plantation House with museum-quality Early American
antiques, Biblical Garden, antebellum cabin, Nature Train,
Nature Boat, wildlife observation tower, and gift shop.
